Couples Therapy

Couples counseling provides an opportunity for any couple who wishes to deepen their understanding of themselves as well as their connection with their partner. The resolution of many differences within the couples’ relationship often depends on how well they can both understand and empathize with their partner. How this is accomplished varies from couple to couple, but when it happens, it is very gratifying to see each partner’s face light up with their new Aha moment, and the result of how this transforms the relationship.

Common issues couples seek help with include:

  • Having problems with intimacy (Emotional and sexual)

  • Struggling with understanding each other

  • Sexual challenges (See Sex therapy)

  • Feeling as though you’ve grown apart

  • Concerns about parenting styles

  • Infidelity

  • Addiction/Compulsivity (See Addiction/Compulsivity)

  • Anger issues (held in or explosive)

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a specialized form of counseling that focuses on addressing sexual concerns and improving sexual experiences and is inclusive of couples’ other dynamics such as relationship issues. It's like having a conversation with a trained professional who understands the nuances of male and female sexuality, including all the emotions as well as physical challenges to assist you. Whether it's dealing with issues like erectile dysfunction, low libido (Lack of sex drive), arousal or orgasm challenges, communication problems, or exploring sexual preferences, sex therapy with me offers a safe and confidential space to discuss these matters openly and candidly without fear or shame.

Symptoms of sexual dysfunction:

Sexual dysfunction generally is classified into four categories:

  • Desire disorders: lack of sexual desire or interest in sex.

  • Arousal disorders: inability to become physically aroused or excited during sexual activity.

  • Orgasm disorders: delay or absence of orgasm (climax).

  • Pain disorders: pain during intercourse.

Benefits of sex therapy:

  • Provides a safe and nonjudgmental space to discuss intimate concerns.

  • Addresses sexual dysfunctions such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, desire, orgasmic, and low libido.

  • Enhances communication and intimacy between partners.

  • Explores sexual desires, preferences, and fantasies in a supportive environment.

  • Helps men and women navigate issues related to sexual trauma or abuse.

  • Offers education and guidance on sexual health and wellness.

  • Identify and overcome barriers to sexual satisfaction and pleasure.

  • Promotes greater self-awareness and acceptance of one's sexuality.

  • Supports each person to achieve greater sexual confidence and fulfillment.

  • Facilitates deeper emotional connection, pleasure and intimacy within relationships.

Individual Therapy

Generally speaking, people seek individual psychotherapy to resolve emotional and psychological issues and conflicts they are experiencing that are having a negative influence upon them. Sometimes, they give labels to their symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or lack of motivation, etc. We do not live in a vacuum and other people affect us in a profound way. We are not responsible for other people’s actions and behaviors; however, we can take responsibility for how we respond and react to them both emotionally and behaviorally.

My belief is that each person has used their intellect and life experiences in the best way they know how, and it has worked for them to get them this far. If they are now struggling in some area of their life, it is usually due to a lack of awareness and resources that they already possess that they need to learn how to utilize. This is a profound personal journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth. I honor each person’s individuality, creativity, and insight, and work with them until they are satisfied that they have the new tools they need to resolve the struggles that cause them to seek therapy.

Benefits of individual therapy:

  • Provide a confidential and nonjudgmental space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

  • Offer personalized support and guidance tailored to each person’s needs.

  • Help identify and address underlying issues contributing to distress and/or dissatisfaction.

  • Enhance self-awareness and insight into patterns of behavior and thought.

  • Equip each person with coping skills and strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

  • Facilitate emotional healing and processing of past traumas or unresolved issues.

  • Promote self-discovery and personal growth, fostering a stronger sense of identity and purpose.

  • Improve interpersonal relationships by developing communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Offer validation, empathy, and support on a continuous basis.

  • Empower each person to make positive changes and live a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Further Services

When I do family therapy, which is a form of group psychotherapy, my aim is to improve relationships among family members while addressing specific mental health or behavioral issues. This therapeutic approach may involve various combinations of family members, including parents, children, siblings, and extended relatives or caregivers. It can assist in adapting to life changes, managing stress, coping with grief, and resolving conflicts within the family unit.
Different types of family therapy are available to cater to specific needs and circumstances. These include Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Marriage Counseling/Couples Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Systemic Family Therapy. Each type employs distinct techniques to address family dynamics and promote positive changes in behavior and communication patterns.
In family therapy, I facilitate open dialogue and guide the family towards understanding and resolving their issues. I may include psychoeducation into family therapy to educate family members about mental health conditions and their impact on family dynamics.
Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of family therapy in improving emotional well-being, resolving conflicts, and enhancing family relationships. However, therapy may not be suitable for everyone, particularly if family members are unwilling to participate or commit to the treatment plan.

Family Therapy

When I embark on a life coaching journey with a new client, my focus is not on emotional healing, but instead is on setting goals, breaking them down into doable steps, and encouraging and supporting the person until that goal is achieved. There is very little focus on past experiences, and rather, we center on the present and future, the creation of goals, and developing confidence and clarity within oneself until those goals are met.
What I offer as a life coach is support, accountability, and guidance as my client moves forward, makes important decisions, and works towards their dreams. I use a variety of techniques and strategies tailored to each person’s unique needs, empowering them to unlock their full potential and live their best life.
Through thoughtful questioning, active listening, and collaboration, I will help you gain clarity, overcome obstacles, and develop the confidence and motivation needed to take meaningful action towards your goals. Whether it's career advancement, personal development, or improving relationships, life coaching with me offers a transformative experience that can empower you to create positive change and thrive in all areas of your life.

Life Coaching

When I do group psychotherapy, I bring together people who all struggle with similar challenges. For example, I currently run a codependency group for women to help them gain greater awareness of how they have lost themselves in their relationships, as well as help them gain the self-esteem needed to make the changes they desire. Other kinds of groups may focus on anxiety, depression, addictions, compulsivity, assertiveness, etc., all designed to assist people to reduce or eliminate these conditions.
In my groups participants have the opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges, providing a sense of validation, empathy, and understanding. Through sharing their stories and receiving feedback from others as well as myself, individuals can gain new perspectives, develop coping strategies, and learning from each other's successes and setbacks.
My goal in these groups is to foster a sense of community, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness often associated with mental health issues. I offer a safe space to practice social skills, assertiveness, and boundary-setting in real-time interactions with others.
In my groups, members can explore underlying patterns of behavior, emotions, and interpersonal dynamics, leading to greater self-awareness and personal growth. These groups can be particularly effective for addressing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and relationship issues.
Overall, group psychotherapy offers a supportive and transformative environment where individuals can heal, grow, and thrive together, sharing in each other's journey towards greater well-being and fulfillment.
